In this AdSense Tutorial we are going to discuss how to find a profitable niche. When we say profitable, it means you will be earning at least 50 cents or above per click and your targeted visitors each month must be at least 2,500 visits from people searching the Internet. So if we are going to estimate, let’s say out of those 2,500 people, 5% will click on your ads, that will roughly bring you 62.50 cents a month or 750.00 a year. Now you may ask yourself if the work to be done is worth it.
If you have 10 successful niche sites, then you will be earning 625.00 a month. Use half of that income to put up another 10 niche sites and soon you will be laughing your way to the bank. So as early as possible, I am now telling you, if you want to earn profitably from AdSense, you must keep in mind that you need to build a network of niche websites. This is something that most people don’t realize, you need to build several websites in order to increase your earnings from AdSense. Unless you have an authority site having millions of unique visitors a month.
Going back in this AdSense Tutorial, finding niches will be your assignment, then after finding them, this tutorial will help you analyze if they are profitable or not using the services provided by Google. So where do you find niches? Ideas can come from your profession, skills, education, hobbies, Interests, or passion. If you are new in this kind of business, it is recommended that you start with things that you are passionate about or on topics that have your own interest. So if your interest is about golf, then write down keywords pertaining to golf like “golf clubs,” “golf shirts”, “golf shoes”, etc.. This is made because once you put up a niche site, it will take a few boring months before you start earning from it and if you have no interest in maintaining and promoting your site, you will mostly likely fail at the start.
Don’t be overwhelmed with what you are reading in this AdSense Tutorial right now. First, you need to put up many niche sites as much as you can and secondly, it will take around 2 – 3 months before you see any earnings from your account. And another thing, there is no assurance that you will succeed, some niche sites will make you money but others might fail which will be discussed later why. I believe you can put up the effort and I also believe you have the confidence to do it. Just take it one at a time, Make that first step and put up your own niche website.
After writing down several keywords, follow this link Google Keywords Tool. This site is used by advertisers using AdWords. Now AdWords is the counterpart of AdSense, so whatever is happening with AdWords, definitely it has a direct affect to AdSense. This keyword tool will help you analyze how many times a number of keywords are being searched in the Internet. You will also find the CPC Cost per Click of each ad for the keywords used. This will help us to know if the keywords we would like to work on is profitable or not.
For purposes of presentation in this AdSense tutorial, I am going to use the keywords “gold fish”, see image above. After this example you have to work out on your own. Before proceeding further, know that CPC (cost per click) is the maximum amount that advertisers are willing to pay for each click. The amount that you will soon see is only an estimate provided by Google. Each time a click is generated, we could estimate that Google is going to pay us, let’s say 30% of the CPC amount shown, with this procedure, we could at least have an idea if our niche is profitable or not.
So after typing in your keywords, we used here “gold fish,” we will customize the columns that we need. As presented above, click column then choose “Global Monthly Searches” and “Estimated avg. CPC.” That will give us an idea how many times this keyword is being searched and how much is the maximum amount each advertiser is willing to pay.
So after customizing the columns, choose exact and unclick broad in order for us to see the exact number of searches for the keywords “gold fish.” After that, click the heading Global Searches so it will sort from highest to lowest. If you will notice, not only does Google provide you the results for “gold fish,” it will also show synonyms and other related keywords relevant to your query.
Let’s focus on the keywords suggested by Google “fish bowl.” The global monthly searches is 4,400 a month and the CPC is 1.12. Let’s assume that after working so hard and we were able to place our website on the first page of search results for Google, we can acquire let’s say 80% x 4,400. So our visitors will be 3,520 each month, then let’s assume that out of that number only 5% will generate some clicks and Google will pay us 30% of the estimated CPC. We can now compute our monthly earnings as 3,520 x .05 x 1.12 x .30 = 59.14 a month.
All amounts given above are all based on estimate. If our site will focus on AdSense alone, we will earn 59.14 dollars a month. Well we could monetize it with other affiliate products but of course our CTR (Click thru Rate) will decrease because our visitors will not be focused on our AdSense alone. So, the next question “are we going to put up a website about fish bowl?” Well not yet, there is another thing we have to do before venturing. We need to check our competitors.
When we search the keywords “fish bowl” on Google, let’s try to analyze our competition by looking at the websites presented by Google. Analyze the image above, by the way, you might want to download SEO for Firefox for you to see the PageRank of each websites presented. It’s free but you have to register to install it. Once installed, you will find some question marks underneath each website and clicking them will show you various results such as PR, Alexa rank, Traffic value, etc. Now, why do we need to see the PR of our competitors. PageRank is the strength of a webpage based on the algorithm of Google, so the higher the PR the more difficult is the competition.
In the image above, you will discover that the top five websites have a PR of 4 and above except the third one which has a PR of 2. This is a very competitive niche. It will take time for you to enter the first page of search results. I am not saying that you can’t compete with them, but these sites has already dominated this niche, so competing with them will take your time and will need lots of work. So “fish bowl” is too difficult to compete with. Using the same procedure indicated above, again, search for other keywords. Now, what is the targeted PR that we can compete with, find keywords that have top 4 websites with PR 3 and under. Don’t go competing with sites that have a PR of 4 and above.
Now, why do some niche sites fail while others succeed. Well because of the nature of how people search and the competition involved. To give you an example, I found a profitable niche before, the sites I will be competing has PR of 2 and under. But when I started putting up the website, my competitors changed. The top five were now dominated by sites having PR of 5 and above. Did I give up? The niche interests me, so up to now I am still maintaining that site, it’s still new and I hope to see some results after 6 months or more. That is the importance in choosing a niche that you like.
