How to Create an AdSense Ad for Content

In this AdSense Tutorial we are going to discuss on how to create an AdSense Ad for Content. Before we start, I will assume that you already have a website and it already has some content that complies with the Google AdSense Program Policy. If you don’t have an AdSense Account yet follow this link – AdSense Application and fill up the important information required, then you have to wait for their approval in your email. I’m not sure about the waiting period but it might take from 24 hours to 72 hours, although there are those that say they have to wait for 6 months. Well, to help you get approved faster (although there are no guarantees) submit to them a quality site. By quality I mean good quality content 6 – 10 posts, nice and professional in appearance. Don’t submit a low quality site!

To familiarize yourself, I placed an image above on how the application form looks like provided by Google (please click to enlarge). So while waiting for their approval, bookmark this site or you can continue reading to prepare you when Google approves your application. For the time being while waiting for your application to be approved check the articles in this site to know and learn more on maximizing your earnings from Google AdSense and keep on building quality backlinks to your site.

So going back in this AdSense Tutorial, first, you should know how Google AdSense shows its ads on blogs and websites. Basically, this is made possible through the use of a JavaScript code. This code will scan your web pages or website then it would draw out advertisement links relevant to your site. If you have a blog or website, you should be able to generate as well as add your very own customized code JavaScript to the pages of your website. The following discusses the basic instructions on how to create your very first AdSense for content code.

After logging into your account, you will find the image provided below. The first thing to do is to search for the tab which says AdSense Setup. After which, select your type of product that you would like to use in our case AdSense for content (the top one). Essentially, AdSense for content allows users to put ads onto your site. You have two options to choose from after clicking AdSense for content, Ad Unit or Link Unit and there is an example shown on the far right. In this AdSense Tutorial, always keep in mind the design of your website while acquiring and formatting your AdSense code or you could open another browser and head straight to your site where you want to put your AdSense, open them simultaneously so you could visualize if the blending of the ads will fit well in your site.

Next…

Ad Unit is very common especially if you’re going to blend AdSense within your post, so choose Ad Unit. Then you will have the option to choose “Text and image ads,” “Text ads only,” “Image ads only,” well this is self explanatory don’t worry of making mistakes, it’s okay, Google will not penalize you, you could create, create and create until you get the right AdSense Ad that you need. “Text Ads” are good performers so let’s just choose “Text and image ads” Google will present both text and image ads interchangeably. After doing this press “continue.”

AdSense Ad Sizes and Formats (open this on another tab or browser to see what size will blend properly in your site)

The next page your are about to see (see image below) is the busiest part not only in acquiring your AdSense code but also in editing and formatting your ads based on the proper blending in your site. Here is where almost all experiments are made and on this page is where you will come back again and again to tweak and change your Ad. So the first thing to do is to choose your AdSense Size. The best performers based on the experience of AdSense Gurus are the biggies but don’t sacrifice it if the size won’t fit well in your site. So choose the one that will blend well. Again click the link provided about AdSense Ad sizes and formats so you can view all the sizes and formats of the Ads.

So continuing in this AdSense Tutorial, next is choosing the colors of your Ads (image above is still referenced). This includes the color of your background, border, title, description and URL. Play with it, while choosing the color of the different parts of your ads, view your site once in a while to check if you have chosen the colors properly. It is recommended that you choose the link color of your site to make it the color of the title and URL of your ads. This will make your readers see immediately that there are links waiting for them and if they got curious about the titles and URLs, well you’re just half-way in earning a commission. Like what we mentioned at the beginning, keep on experimenting varying the colors of each part of your Ads. When we say experiment, you don’t change them as often as you could, allow at least a month then check your clicks in your AdSense Reports and compare them with the performance with your previous format. After reaching your satisfaction click “continue.”

Here we come in using AdSense channels (see image above). The Custom ad channels could aid users in tracking the performance of the ad units placed. This is useful only if you are using different Ad sizes in a single page of your site, although I would recommend placing a channel to each ad that you create. If you are going to use 3 ad blocks of the same sizes, channels will not work, you need to create different AdSense code for each naming them top, middle or bottom if you want to know the top performer among the three. In order to add a new channel, click the link which says “Add New Channel” and add it onto your own ad unit. Then, press the button which says “Continue” and you will then be requested to select a name for your newly created AdSense unit. You can type in any name you want inside the text box. Make sure though that the name you choose will make it easy for you to identify your created ad unit just in case you want to edit it in the future. Here is an additional reading How do I create custom channels / How do I create URL channels.

The next step is to press the button which says “Submit and Get Code.” You will then be presented with your unique ad code (see image above). Make sure to copy the ad code for your very own AdSense unit and then add it onto your desired web page location in order to begin displaying ads. Voila! You now know how to create your AdSense ads. If you don’t know anything about HTML, just search in Google how to place your AdSense codes in your webpages or use plug-ins if you are using WordPress. Before we end this AdSense Tutorial, the next thing you have to do now is to find the best placement of your Ads, please read this article to help you get started – The Best Ad Placement for AdSense Ads.
